# AI legal research tools in Pakistan (2026)

What each option publishes about itself, what it does not, and how to test any of them.

## The question that matters

**Where did this citation come from, and can I open it?**

Pakistani law is thinly represented in general model training data, which is why a
general-purpose chatbot asked a Pakistani law question often produces a citation that reads
perfectly and does not exist. The mark of a serious tool is not confidence; it is that every
citation traces to a document you can open.

## FAI Legal Research Assistant

- Corpus: 43,645 statute sections across 295 acts; 23,343 judgments mirrored from the courts'
  published records.
- Courts: Supreme Court of Pakistan, Lahore / Peshawar / Islamabad High Courts, Federal Shariat
  Court. **Sindh and Balochistan High Courts are not covered.**
- Pricing: Free (10 questions a month, permanent), Professional Rs. 990/month, Premium
  Rs. 1,485/month with PDF and Word export.
- Citations marked verified only when retrieved from the court source; unconfirmed ones are
  reported as unconfirmed.
- Does **not** draft documents.

## DigiLawyer

An AI legal platform for Pakistani practice, reported as developed by engineers from the
University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. Two assistants are described:
**ARK AI** for research with source citations, and **MIKE AI** for drafting pleadings,
applications, replies, notices and contracts.

- Reported adoption: UET's announcement states use by government institutions, the judiciary
  and law firms. The Sindh High Court Bar Association separately announced introducing a
  "DIGI LAWYER" AI platform with Codxperts Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
- Corpus size: **not published.**
- Court coverage: **not published.**
- Pricing: **not published** on any page reachable to us.
- Drafting is a capability FAI does not match.

## Pakistan Law Site

The long-established subscription database of reported Pakistani case law. Advertises no AI
features, but it is what most of this market has been using.

- Coverage: ten reporters — PLD, SCMR, CLC, PCrLJ, PTD, PLC, CLD, YLR, MLD, GBLR — plus federal
  and provincial statutes and 1,200+ essays.
- Substantially deeper reported case law than FAI, including Sindh and Balochistan, Azad
  Kashmir, and service/labour/tax tribunals, back to the 1940s.
- Pricing: Rs. 9,000 quarterly or Rs. 36,000 annually, each plus Rs. 2,000 registration;
  USD $700/year international. No free tier advertised.

## General chatbots (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude)

Strong general tools, wrong instrument for a Pakistani citation. They answer from model memory
unless they happen to search, hold no dedicated index of Pakistani statute or precedent, and do
not flag what they could not verify. Retrieval beats memory for a jurisdiction with thin
training coverage.

This market does not publish much. If a tool will not say what is in its index or what it
costs, that is worth asking before relying on it in a filing.

## How to test any of them in ten minutes

1. Ask about a case you already know, then check every citation against the official source.
2. Ask for the exact text of a specific section (e.g. s. 489-F PPC) and compare word for word.
   Paraphrase is a warning sign.
3. Ask about a court it does not cover — a tool that admits the gap beats one that improvises.
4. Ask something with no good answer, and watch whether it says so.
