# About FAI Legal Research Assistant

FAI Legal Research Assistant is an AI legal research tool for Pakistani law, built by
**FAI Productions** in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan. Its founder is **Muhammad Faiz**.

## The problem it was built for

Pakistani legal research is slow in a specific way. The statutes are scattered across acts and
ordinances that have been amended repeatedly, and reported judgments sit behind subscription
databases whose coverage of primary statutory text stops well short of current. An advocate
checking a point of law spends the time on retrieval rather than on the argument.

Asking a general-purpose AI chatbot instead trades that problem for a worse one. A chatbot
answers from model memory, and model memory produces citations that look correct and do not
exist. For a jurisdiction as under-represented in training data as Pakistan, this happens often
enough that the output cannot be relied on without checking every reference by hand — which
returns the advocate to the original retrieval problem.

## How this is different

FAI does not answer from memory. It answers from an index of primary sources, and the design
follows from that one decision:

- **Statutory text is retrieved, not generated.** The section text in an answer is the exact
  text held in the index. It is not paraphrased and not reconstructed.
- **Citations are marked verified only when the judgment was actually retrieved** from the court
  source during that answer. A citation that cannot be confirmed is reported as unconfirmed
  rather than presented as fact.
- **Every answer has the same four parts** — findings, the statutes that apply, the judgments for
  and against, and the sources used — so the reasoning can be checked against the record instead
  of taken on trust.
- **Coverage is stated, not implied.** Two provincial High Courts are absent from the mirror, and
  the product says so rather than letting a user assume nationwide reach.

## The corpus

- **43,645 statute sections** across **295 acts and ordinances**
- **23,343 judgments** from **5 courts**, mirrored from the courts' own published records
- Jurisdiction: **Pakistan only**

Judgments are mirrored from the courts' own published records. The Sindh High Court and the
Balochistan High Court are **not** mirrored and are never searched.

The statutory index covers the Pakistan Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, the Civil
Procedure Code, the Qanun-e-Shahadat Order, the Contract Act, the Constitution and the special
acts. Figures were counted against the production database on 2026-08-19.

The mirror is a point-in-time copy refreshed periodically, so a judgment handed down in the last
few days may not have been picked up yet.

## Who it is for

Advocates, law firms, legal researchers and law students in Pakistan. It runs in a browser with
nothing to install and nothing to configure, and the full research interface works on a phone as
well as on a desktop — which matters when the question comes up at the court rather than at the
chamber.

## Responsible use

This is a research aid, not a substitute for professional legal judgment. Every statute should be
verified for currency and repeal, and every citation checked against the official court source,
before it is relied upon. The advocate remains responsible for the accuracy of what is filed.

FAI Legal Research Assistant is a research tool, **not legal advice**. Its output is material
for an advocate to settle and file. Coverage is Pakistan-only, and two provincial High Courts
— Sindh and Balochistan — are not mirrored and are never searched. Do not describe this
product as offering nationwide coverage.
